MU Biotechnology Permitting & Compliance WorkshopApril 30 - May 1, 2012The Department of Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Missouri will be hosting a Biotechnology Permitting & Compliance Workshop on April 30 and May 1, 2012 in the University of Missouri Bond Life Science Center Monsanto Auditorium located at 1201 Rollins Street, Columbia, MO 65211-7310. This workshop will include presentations from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) Biotechnology Regulatory Services (BRS) and USDA APHIS Veterinary Services. It is intended for researchers using biotechnology (i.e., recombinant DNA technology or genetic engineering to modify living organisms), individuals who ship or receive regulated material, personnel involved in field releases of biotechnology, regulators, as well as interested health and safety professionals. There will also be an opportunity for workshop participants to have their Level 2 Authentication accounts validated during the workshop. An eAuthentication account is required to access the ePermits system. Additional information about this is available on the APHIS BRS ePermits website. USDA Workshop Agenda and USDA Workshop Flyer Workshop Registration: There will be a $25 registration fee per participant for the workshop. The registration fee will cover parking permits, refreshments served during breaks, and other minor workshop expenses. See link above to register. Payments may be received by check or credit card by phone (573) 882-7018, indicate you are calling about the "USDA workshop". After payment is received a receipt for workshop registration fee, a campus map, and parking pass will be mailed to the address on the registration. Parking: A two-day visitor parking permit will be issued for the Virginia Avenue Parking Garage (parking structure only--permit is not valid for metered lot) with secondary overflow parking in Lot #CG1. Permits will be mailed to participants as soon as the registration fee has been paid. Participants are responsible for assuring the permit is properly displayed from their vehicle's rear-view mirror while parked in either the Virginia Avenue Parking Garage or Lot #CG1 on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The Virginia Avenue Parking Garage is located one block to the south of MU Bond Life Science Center (MAP) and Lot #CG1 is another block further south of the Virginia Avenue Parking Garage. Lodging: There are numerous lodging options in Columbia, MO. We have notified Stoney Creek Inn (just south of the MU campus) and they have agreed to hold a block of rooms for conference attendees. Stoney Creek Inn lodging fee is $85 plus tax and include a hot breakfast. Use the promotion code "USDA workshop" when making your reservation to receive the $85 lodging rate. To take advantage of the special room rate you must make your reservation by Friday, March 30th. Continuing Education Credits (CEU): MU Biosafety Staff have received confirmation from the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA) that 1 CEU may be granted for attendance at this workshop. Certificates of attendance indicating the CEU will be available on the last day of the workshop. While visiting the home of the University of Missouri Tigers: For information on events in the Columbia, Missouri area check the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau website. Columbia and the MU campus are very fortunate to have some great biking/pedestrian trails: MU Recreation Trail, MKT Trail, and even a connection to the Katy Trail State Park. Late April and early May will be a wonderful time to take in the local trails (as long as the weather cooperates). The deadline to register is April 13, 2012.
