Chemical Safety RetrainingIn February 2005, a letter was sent out to all Registered Users requesting they update their worker rolls with EHS and send their workers through new, updated training. This announcement has raised many questions. If your question can't be answered below, feel free to call (882-7018) or email us:Frequently Asked QuestionsWho must retrain?Any person working with ANY chemicals who has either never received training or received training prior to September 2004, must train or retrain, as appropriate. Why is retraining necessary? Many procedures have changed significantly since the last training update. Additionally, the entire training program has been overhauled, to add emphasis on SAFETY when working with chemicals, as opposed to the previous emphasis on MU procedures. Which type of worker am I? Which class do I take? CHEMICAL workers work with chemicals on a more-or-less daily basis. Examples would include graduate students and research technicians. The "Chemical Management for CHEMICAL Workers" class is the right one for you. Do I need to bring anything? We suggest bringing a pencil or pen (for taking notes); the correct spelling of your Registered User (or supervisor's) name and the Registered User's four digit identification number. Is there a deadline for retraining? It is prudent to retrain as soon as possible. We initially requested that retraining be completed no later than June 30, 2005. If you were unable to retrain by then, we suggest you retrain at your earliest opportunity. I'm in one of the outlying areas of Mizzou. Are you taking your show on the road? We do plan on traveling to areas that are far from Boone County. Already on our list to deal with are the farms in the northeast and northwest part of the state; the Missouri Rehab Center, the SW Center and the Delta Center. If you're in another area, please call (573-882-7018) or email us and we'll make sure to examine your special case. I need the ancillary worker class, but none of the times work for me. Can I take the chemical worker class instead? Yes. The chemical worker contains all of the information in the ancillary class, so it may be substituted for the shorter course. I need the chemical worker class, but none of the times for me. Can I take the ancillary worker class instead? No. The ancillary worker class is pared down to meet the less complex needs of ancillary workers. It will not cover all of the information you should be provided as a chemical worker. None of these classes work for me and my group. What can I do? We are constantly adding classes throughout the semester. Sign into the registration interface for the most current listing. If you can get a group of 20 people or more in your area, we would be happy to hold a special session for you.
