Peroxide Forming Chemicals

This list is comprehensive, yet is is not all-inclusive. Chemicals with similar names to the ones on this list should be given consideration when assessing the potential for preoxide formation.

The peroxide list does not address the broad range of chemical-specific hazards and properties that are associated with the individual chemicals. For instance, 2-Butanol, Diethyl ether, and Tetrahydrofuran, among many others, form explosive levels of peroxides on concentration. Furthermore, Isopropyl ether, Tetrafluoroethylene, and Butadiene form explosive levels of peroxides without being concentrated. It should be clearly noted that some chemicals present much greater hazards than others with respect to the formation of peroxides.
