The purpose of this class is to enable the student to gain an understanding of how biological safety cabinets (BSC) function and how to work safely in them. A BSC is the primary means of containment developed for working safely with infectious microorganisms. Topics covered include how a BSC works, how to work safely inside a BSC, types of BSCs, decontamination and shut-down procedures, and other best practices.

This course is hosted by HSI and can be found in EHS Assistant Training Portal.  If the training course is not assigned to you it can also be found under "Additional Resources" in the HSI portal.  The training should take about 1 hour to complete. The Biosafety Cabinet course is comprised of one module:  EHS230 MU Biosafety Cabinets Training.  You must complete the module and score at a minimum 80% on the assessment to receive credit for this course.
