The purpose of this in-person class is to train staff on proper identification, classification, and packaging of Category A infectious substances in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations and/or guidelines. This class also covers Category B Biological Substances, Genetically Modified Organisms, and patient specimens. This training, if applicable to the individual's work, is required every two years. This training is intended for campus personnel who will ship or receive genetically modified materials, human blood, or infectious substances capable of causing permanent disability or life-threatening or fatal disease in otherwise healthy humans or animals.
