Regulated Medical Waste Shipping Requirements

Regulated medical waste—including pathological (path) waste and other biohazardous materials—is classified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) as a hazardous material. As a result, its handling and transport are subject to specific regulatory training requirements.

If you sign Regulated Medical Waste Manifests or are responsible for preparing path waste boxes or tubs for shipment, you are required to complete DOT-compliant training.

After successfully completing the training and passing the associated test, you will receive a certificate of training. This certificate verifies that you have met the regulatory requirements for preparing regulated medical waste for transportation.
