Peroxide forming chemicals, also known as PFCs, are a common but sometimes overlooked hazard in research and teaching laboratories. Over time, certain chemicals can react with oxygen to form unstable peroxides that may become sensitive to heat, friction, shock, or concentration. If not properly managed, peroxide formation can create serious fire, explosion, and injury risks.

This page serves as the main reference point for peroxide forming chemical safety at Mizzou. For additional guidance on PFC management, how peroxide formation occurs, testing procedures, and related resources, see the Related Links section on the side of this webpage.
