General Training Information

In order to make training available day or night, EHS has transitioned the majority of our catalog to online, on-demand training. EHS' training is available through a third-party Learning Management System (LMS) called Health and Safety Institute (HSI). With few exceptions, in-person classes are no longer available. If you need specialized hands-on training, such as hands-on forklift training, EHS can assist you in finding a training provider.

To meet MU's security requirements, access to courses will only be available through our data management system, EHS Assistant (EHSA). It is vital that Permitted Individuals keep worker rosters up-to-date so the proper training is assigned to each person and so that those individuals can assess the online courses. Workers will not be able to access hazard-specific training if not associated with your permit.

Permitted Individuals (PIs) should perform the following tasks prior to instructing staff and students to access online training:

  • Verify workers associated with your permit(s) are correct in EHSA. See "Add/Edit Worker to a Permit" on our EHSA tutorial page.
  • Instruct your workers to log into EHSA after updating your roster NOW to verify they can access training. Contact EHS if problems are encountered.

EHSA requires you login using your MU Pawprint and Password.

If you do not have a MU Pawprint due to your status as a visiting scholar, contract employee or other similar situation, you will not be able to register for these courses.  Please contact your sponsoring department to obtain a courtesy appointment. Be prepared to furnish the following to the sponsoring department:

  • Your first name and last name.
  • Your complete home mailing address.
  • Your date of birth.

Once you have accessed the Training Portal in EHSA, you will be able to view your training records, register for in-person courses, and access EHS Online Training content housed in HSI. Tutorials demonstrating the use of EHS Assistant can be found on the EHSA tutorial page

Changes in EHS Assistant are imported into HSI daily at 1:00 PM. Training completion is imported from HSI into EHS Assistant daily at 1:00 pm.  In general this means you will not be able to access HSI training until the day after one is registered in EHSA. And training will not appear in EHSA until the day after it is completed in HSI.

Also note, that EHSA is the official source for training requirements and due dates. You should disregard grades and due dates shown in HSI.
