Introduction to Radiation Safety - Part I
The purpose of this self-paced, online course is to introduce new Radiation Workers and Authorized Users to the particulars of the Radiation Safety Program at MU. The course content includes, but is not limited to, basic regulatory information and radiation safety program structure, basic radiation safety science, radiation exposure and dose limits, associated MU specific limits of contamination and radiation exposure, dose reduction techniques, surveys and instrumentation, purchase and receipt of radioactive material, security and safe handling, disposal of radioactive materials, spill response, and important information for the Authorized User. **This course must be completed prior to registration for Introduction to Radiation Safety – Part II.

To complete Introduction to Radiation Safety-Part 1, please visit the EHS-Radiation Safety Canvas page here. Once you have accessed the page, you will need to click "Join this Course" in the top right corner of the screen (See image below.)
After logging into Canvas and joining EHS-Radiation Safety, you will be taken to the Home page. The Home page displays all classes EHS Radiation Safety offers. The class you are looking for is titled "Training for Radiation Workers - Research (EHS 401)." If your screen does not look like the image below, click the arrow to the left of the class title to expand the class and show all assignments.
Each title under EHS 401 is an assignment for the class. All assignments must be completed in sequential order as shown above. To begin taking this class, click on the first assignment titled "Taking Introduction to Radiation Safety" and read the directions carefully.
As you progress through the class, it may be beneficial to leave the presentations open in a separate window such that you can access them during the quiz. You will have three attempts to achieve a 75% or greater on your quiz in order to be eligible for Introduction to Radiation Safety-Part 2. If after the third attempt, you have not passed, additional in person training may be required. There are 90 questions on the quiz. The training works best when using the web browser Firefox.
If you have difficulties joining this course, go to Canvas.Missouri.edu. Once you are logged in, you will see all courses that are assigned to you. If EHS-Radiation Safety does not appear, click "Courses" and "All Courses" on the left hand side of the screen (see image below.)
Once there, click "Browse More Courses" in the top right corner (see image below.)
The next screen should display all courses available to join. Locate the EHS-Radiation Safety tile and click "Join this Course" (See image below.)
Proceed to take "Training for Radiation Workers-Research (EHS 401)."
