Pandemic Influenza

Pandemic flu has received great attention from the media and government agencies. Many experts believe that a pandemic is likely to occur in the near future. Recent experience with novel H1N1 flu confirm this prediction.

MU Preparedness Activities

MU's preparedness activities are based upon the MU Emergency Operations Plan, which was developed to address all types of emergencies. To more specifically address pandemic flu, MU established a Pandemic Flu Assessment Team in 2006. The work of that team enabled the campus to be prepared for the outbreak of novel H1N1 flu in 2009. MU continues to monitor local, national and international events to be as prepared as possible in the event that a pandemic does occur. In addition, MU has been actively participating in local preparedness activities coordinated by the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services.
